Albania’s gas sector marks progress

Gas sector has undergone fundamental changes since 2014, where the most significant is the reform of the market model.

The Energy Secretariat has issued its latest February report where it evaluates the steps that Albania has made in relation to final objectives for the gas package.

The first thing considered is securing a transparent a non-discriminating access to third parties.

Three sub-components result without progress, and namely they are: establishing mechanisms of allocating capacities, establishing balancing mechanisms based on the market, and developing transparent rules and non-discriminatory tariff.

The second component is related with the amount of gas provision and to provide a competitive framework. For this component, the situation results positive and there is room for improvement.

The third component has to do with measures related to infrastructure where the situation is in limbo, while the fourth component that is related with the division of transmission has marked progress.
