Macedonia: Greater efficiency and competitiveness of the companies through application of energy efficiency

Representatives of more then 100 companies participated on 12 September at the Workshop for energy efficiency promotion in the enterprises. At the workshop that was held within the frames of the “Platform for energy efficiency” that was organized by EVN Macedonia and the Ministry of Economy participated experts from the Academic community, representatives of financial institutions that finance such projects, representatives of companies that have realized such projects, as well as representatives of other companies and relevant subjects.

The purpose of the workshop is for the companies to increase the application of the energy efficiency in their working and in such manner to become more efficient and more competitive. The companies that already applied such principles emphasized the benefits, advantages and the concrete effects.
The representatives of the Ministry of Economy presented the strategic frame of Republic of Macedonia with review of the department industry, as well as the legislation in the same area, while the representatives of EVN Macedonia presented the possibilities for support in the application of the energy efficiency. The Minister of Economy, Valon Saraqini and the Chairman of the Management Board of EVN Macedonia, Werner Hengst welcomed the participants of the workshop.
“The energy efficiency is with exceptional potential not only from aspect of reduction of the consumption, but also as potential for opening of new businesses that will offer products and services related to this area”, emphasized Hengst.
“The application of the energy efficiency in the work of the enterprises will have direct contribution for the reduction of the expenses and what is most important, for the improvement of the competitiveness of the companies at the domestic and foreign markets. The Ministry of Economy will continue to work actively on the promotion of the legislation pursuant the new needs and will support the Macedonian business sector through every available mechanism into direction of improvement of its competitiveness because it is base for greater development of the economy”, emphasized Minister Saraqini.
With the first Action Plan for Energy Efficiency and the Energy Efficiency Promotion Strategy is envisaged realization of national indicative goal for energy saving in the final consumption of 9% until 2018 compared to the average consumption of energy in the period 2002 – 2006. For the realization of these goals are undertaken numerous measures in every sector of final energy consumption including the department of industry.
The platform for energy efficiency as long-term strategy was promoted last year. Within the frames of this platform was realized educative workshop for the media, TV and print messages for mass communication and part of this platform is the educational program “Energy alphabet”.
