Ismajli and Gjinuri express their readiness to intensify economic cooperation

The Minister of Economic Development, Fadil Islmajli, and his associates, met on 13 September with the Minister of Energy and Industry of Republic of Albania, Damian Gjiknuri. Both Ministers supported more thorough and comprehensive economic cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Ismajli stated that a genuine development is a cooperative development between both countries, and such cooperation will serve wider European development in all segments.

“However, the issue of utmost significance for us is the complementarity of the two countries’ energy segments, with the natural link between renewable energy sources in Albania with the vast coal potentials of Kosovo, as well as mines and minerals in both countries,” Minister Ismajli said.

The Head of MED said that exchange of experiences and expertise between both countries in management, technical development and technology is more than welcome.

“The meeting with Minister Gjiknuri revealed that the same spirit prevails on both sides, along with the wish and commitment to ensure a fraternal cooperation with mutual benefits for both parties. I remain in hope that we will implement all we’ve committed to,” said Minister Ismajli.

For his part, the Albanian Minister of Energy and Industry, Damian Gjiknuri, expressed official Tirana’a readiness to deepen economic cooperation with Kosovo in all spheres, underlining that bad experience will not be repeated in the future.

He said that projects like the Kosovo – Albania interconnection line will be implemented and that all steps will be undertaken to ensure that projects of such significance are implemented without delay, adding that cooperation in the sphere of energy will not be restricted to this aspect only, while mentioning among other potentials that of the TAP gas pipeline project.

Gjiknuri said that the meeting at the level of ministers will be followed by relevant institutions, such as regulators and independent agencies, which are enticed to intensify their contacts with the aim of identifying and advancing bilateral cooperation opportunities.

The meeting between Ministers Ismajli and Gjiknuri was also attended by heads of ERO, KEK, KOSTT, KEDS and Trepça.
