European Commission reacts over ARMO crisis

The European Commission ha reacted over the situation created with ARMO Company in Albania, whose activity have been suspended since several months because of the blocking that certain circles within the current Government have ordered to be imposed upon it.

Spokesperson of the EU High Representative for Security Issues and Foreign Policy Catherine Ashton, has responded to media interest on this issue, confirming that the European Commission has been informed about the closing of the ARMO refineries and the consequences that to employees are currently suffering.

The European Commission stresses the importance of creating a favorable climate to business and economic development.

”This requires a proper implementation of the law, including the gradual sanctions in case of law violations, but also guaranteeing the right to have an opportunity to appeal against administrative decisions,” writes an official statement issued by the European Commission.

Without any proper legal order, certain state structures not only have given to the company no chance to appeal the decisions, but have violently blocked the work in refineries, as well as its bank accounts.

The structures dependent on the Ministry of Finance not only did not use the concept of gradualness in penalties they are imposing on ARMO, but they have also violently shut down any possibility for the work to start, regardless of the costs and losses incurred, and, above all, regardless of the damage that was done to over three thousand families who work in the refineries of Ballsh and Fier.

Forced by the attitude of state structures, these families are not receiving any income since several months, and the only thing they are anticipating is the departure of the current incumbent government.
