KEK achieves record in electricity production since the beginning of its production

During 2012, KEK has reached a historical record of electricity production as compared to the period from the issuance of power plants in operation. Although over 50 years have passed since first unit of ” power plant Kosova A” began working, while power plant “Kosova B” this year turns 30 years from the start of operations, this did not stop the corporation’s employees from reaching this record production. In 2012, the generators of both plants produced 5.85 million megawatt/ hours of electricity, or about 200 thousand megawatts/ hours more than in 1988 when the largest production was achieved before the war, when blocks of PP “Kosova B” were 4 and 5 years old. “These results are making me proud. This is achieved through the right investments and thanks to the incomparable commitment of employees at all levels of the production, ranging from the coal production up to the power plants. The praise goes to them, “said Arben Gjukaj, Managing Director of KEK. These results realized by the fact that production record was also achieved in the power plant “Kosova B”, whose generator has produced 3.74 million megawatts / hour of electricity. “Despite the aging units we have been focused on our work and have carried out our mission. The employees spared nothing of themselves. We were mobilized to the last bit so the population could have available electricity,” said Luigj Ymeri, manager of PP “Kosova B”.
The record production of electricity was achieved regardless of the fact that two units of PP “Kosova A”, respectively A3 and A5 were out of operation for 4 months because of the replacement of the electro static precipitators. Furthermore, nowadays the dust emission of are within the allowed legal standards for the first time in its operation.
In addition to the increase in the production record, the efficiency has also increased since power plants have generated more electricity with less coal, making less CO2 pollution. Also the stabilization of coal supply has impacted the reserves of the power plants who have had enough reserves of this matter for weeks. The coal stocks have never fallen below 500 thousand tons.
The Record production of electricity has caused the electricity supply to be stable and best supply after the war. The load shedding ABC category was not used so much during this year. A similar situation also occurred during the first quarter of this year and even improved. Now the citizens are no longer stressed by the failure of units and they have an uninterruptable electricity supply.
Overall electricity production since 1962 till today. The figures are in MWh. First unit of PP “Kosova B” started operation in 1983 year while second unit in 1984.
