Albania leads Balkans for oil-producing capaticities
Albania is the largest oil producer among the Western Balkan countries and the third largest across Southeastern Europe, reads a recent report published by the Greek-based South East Energy Institute of Energy.
In the region, involving 12 countries, along with countries such as Turkey or Greece, Albania is third, with a production of 21100 barrels of oil per day, ranking behind Turkey and Romania.
Among the six Western Balkan countries, meanwhile, the only country that can be compared with Albania is Serbia, with a production of 20,500 barrels of oil per day.
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia have zero oil production.
When it comes to consumption, Albania ranks third among the Western Balkan countries, after Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The report estimates that in the country, oil consumption is fixed at 24,000 barrels per day, slightly above production.
However, domestic production should be seen as separated from consumption, as in the case of production it is gross crude oil, which is exported overseas, in the absence of processing capacities inside Albania.
